Eye Problem - Looks pecked

Recommended Posts

Evening,

One of my chickens, a Cochin I think, has a problem with her eye. I haven't noticed until today although I thought I'd been looking closely for these things. However, it looks like it might have been this way for a while.

It looks like it has been pecked rather than it being a cold or anything. She seems fine, is roaming around, laying eggs, eating etc.

Here's a picture: IMAG0328.jpg

That doesn't seem to be working so here is a direct link: https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/0c6w2DhePI4drqVeAP8ftw?feat=directlink

Any ideas?

Thanks

She really needs to see a vet I think. Can you actually open the lids and see the eye itself? Someone needs to have a good look at the eye to ensure there isn't damage to the surface which will quickly become infected. If the meantime you can bathe it in cold tea (no milk!) which will soothe it to a degree. Sore eyes are very painful.

I went out this morning to get her ready to go to the vet and her eye is wide open and looks fine. She's eating, drinking and free ranging at the moment. I'll keep checking but maybe it was just a cold or something. It looks completely clear.

Thanks for the comments.
