Food and water for chicks...

Recommended Posts

Our chicks are due soon, should I put food and water in the eglu? I have a drinker in the run and chick crumb which I can put on a saucer to start with. Should I out some water in a lid with marbles in with some food into the eglu on when they start to hatch? My broody currently has a ramekin of water, would it be wise to remove it?

A million questions!

I put a shallow lipped chick drinker and a chick feeder in the house... normally for the first few days after hatching and then move it outdoors. This time round I took it out after a day as mum chicken was reluctant to leave the house to poo and was making a bit of a mess! I moved it just outside the door and they all soon came toddling out!

I tend to hatch in a GO which has a lovely flat floor, but think i'd be reluctant to put a drinker in something less level in case it got knocked over.

I'd definitely remove the ramekin if I where you.
