AJuff
Five years ago I was horrified to see a mature oak over the road from our house being chopped down to make way for a small development of houses. As it was so big they sliced a lot of the main trunk down to make it easier to bring down. I asked if I could have a slice, OH drove over the road and came back muttering how heavy it was! It was a hundred years old when we counted it's annual rings! It has been drying for the last five years now and I'd like to make a bench from it but have no idea where to start! Anyone able to offer ideas or inspiration?

Olly
I'll try and take a photo of the one I bought at Grand Designs last year - a very simple rectangular slab of oak on four 4"x4" legs, the legs are just slanted slightly so they make an inverted V and the slab sits on top of them. Unfortunately the oak isn't weathering too well, I was assured there was no need to treat it but I think it could do with something this year as it's cracking a bit.
