fujcube
Hi all, Fortunately, we don't have a problem with magpies, yet! I suppose it's only a matter of time before they find their way down to us! However, I do have a problem with Jackdaws & Crows going into my duck huts to steal their food. This wasn't that big a problem until my ducks started to lay. Now they have discovered that there are eggs in the nests and I have lost 2 from my Call Duck clutch already! As a temporary measure, I have fixed a section of aviary mesh across the back of the door opening and cut a hole, just big enough for the ducks to get through. My theory is that the size of the hole will deter the Jackdaws & Crows. If this fails, I think my only other option is to remove the egss and put them in the incubator. All comments and suggestions very much appreciated! Regards
leedg
You could try placing a model owl somewhere nearby, you can buy them from shooting websites/shops, crows absolutely loathe owls, it will either scare them off, or they will attack it! Either way should keep them away from your ducks. The only downside is that it may also scare off other types of birds
fujcube
Thanks for the reply. Thankfully, the aviary mesh over the door opening works a treat. The Jackdaws and Crows don't go anywhere near the hut now. Our white Call Duck is now on day 2 of her incubation of 12 eggs! Roll on the end of the month.
