sjp
Rebbeca my broody is obssesed(sp) with digging for food for the chicks so much so I've had to refill the drinker twice today and clean the wood chip out I don't know how many times which today was fine has I've been home all day. she also knocked the feeder over this morning and I'm not sure it was by accident. so tonight I've moved the broody coop on to the patio with a couple of inches of wood chip and place the feeder and drinker on blocks there were on blocks in the old location but know they are a bit high due to less woodchip. if she is still intent on digging for food and filling the drinker and feeder with woodchip, will it be ok to keep them on bare slabs for 2 or 3 weeks untill the chicks are big enough to jump up onto a high set of blocks. should add that the digging resulted in one chick getting under the run and out into the garden chicks only hatched on Tuesday/wednesday
craftyhunnypie
Try the wooden pellet type cat litter as bedding for the chicks. It's much better & cleaner. They don't seem to scratch & flick it in the drinkers as much. It doesn't look so comfy, but the chicks don't mind - plus my chicks always have teddy or baby comforter in with them. Something to snuggle into in the brooder, that they think is mum. Sorry, s"Ooops, word censored!" that - have just noticed that you've used a broody. Hmm plan B.
