donald
Hi I have a bantam sitting on duck eggs for 3 + weeks . Will they still sit on the eggs if they are not fertile or after how many weeks will they give up???. I tried to candle an egg it feels heavy, but I couldnt work out if anything was in them? But I am wondering if they are not fertile now? I am going to leave it another week as I know its still a week early.
Chook n Boo Mum
Yes a hen will sit on non-fertile eggs ........I don't know how long she'd stay there, as I've removed duds at "hatch date" & discovered they were duds at that point due to inexperienced candling .........or when some incy hatched quails were ready for adoption in Blossom's case last week. If you haven't/can't candle them then leave them until their due date...she'll realise they aren't moving & chatting to her eventually & lose interest Good luck, Sha x
donald
Thanks very much shame as I have 3 broody naughty bantams! I will try to buy a more powerful torch tomorrow. I wish they would just snap out of it if not fertile. But I will give it another week. I do lift them out to feed and water but as you know straight back on. But thank you
