churchhouse
Hey all, We have 1 drake and 1 duck since they were two days old, and once we had sexed them, got another duck (dotty) a few months later who is about 6 weeks younger. The drake began to mate with dotty much more than with the other duck, Waddles, and Dotty now has a bald patch underneath her wings and is bald and has scabs on the back of her head. We've tried separating the drake, but his wives got very distressed, and patrol up and down the fence quacking at him. He then taught himself to fly and flapped back over the fence to them! Please help jemima
miller30
Hi Jemima you wont stop this behaviour in your drake as it is breeding season my ducks have bad heads at the moment and my drake even pecks at their eyes when my drakes are gone i will not be owning another i have 2 drakes with 7 girls and they are a nightmare if you dont want to breed you could try rehoming your drake leanne
churchhouse
Thanks leanne, hopefully it will calm down after breeding season. We're definitely not getting rid of our drake, he's adorable, and very good natured (except for the pecking) Thanks for the advice Jemima
LittleNell
We have one drake and 5 girls. He seems to have his favourites, but apart from a bald spot on the head, they do not appear to suffer much from his attentions. He is quite a gentleman really and looks after his ladies very well and keeps them very safe indeed.
