Lorax Posted May 16, 2011 Share Posted May 16, 2011 Our speckeldy has gone broody for the third time since we got her in September. Before, she seemed to go broody as the weather changed - the first time she went broody as the weather got really cold and snowed, so when she went broody again about six weeks ago I joked that the weather was about to change - it did. My little Lily goes broody every month from about February to November, in fact she was off again at the weekend for the fourth time so far this year. Perhaps I could hire her out to someone who wants to hatch but doesn't have their own broody, as she seems so desperate for babies . Nicola. Sorry she is light weight, my Pekins lay a couple of eggs and go broody they then have a few day in the cooler start laying again and the cycle starts again. All 4 of mine are broody at the moment, and Dot my partridge Wyandotte has pulled out all of the feathers on her undercarriage to line her nest box, she looks oven ready. I don't have enough coolers to sort them all out, and when I cure one inevitablyu they go back in the run with another broody and it sets them off again! Driving me bonkers at the moment. chuckmum6 Posted May 16, 2011 Share Posted May 16, 2011 I have allowed two of mine to hatch out a total of 5 chicks, the rest are half bald and mad. I have sectioned off the end of the cube train and they go in there, two have just come out and another is now in! I'm fed up with hormonal hens and hardly any eggs!!! Only my Legbar and two Marans haven't been broody. The stress is showing on Onion, who can't keep up with the comings and goings of his wives, he is extremely vocal at the moment!
