poachedegg
6 eggs are in our incubator and today is day 12. There is a possibility that our Amber Star Florence is broody. What are your thoughts on transferring the eggs from the incubator to Florence? We be looking at about day 14 in order to test her broodiness - is this suitable? Would it work with Florence only sitting on them for 7 days? Or should we just leave the eggs in the incubator? The only reason I'm asking is that the chicks would have a proper Mum, however we don't want to potentially disrupt the hatch. Any thoughts? Redwing
I did this quite a bit last year as its nicer to see chicks with a mum and easier on the dust levels in my house If you are 100% sure of the broodiness then I'd say do try it, try dud eggs for at least 4/5 days then swap the eggs after dark and shut the door of the coop so the broody has little option but to sit It wont matter if they have only been under for a week before they hatch, the broody should be ok If the broody hasnt raised chicks before then keep an eye on her, some dont react well to newly hatched chicks
