Sophs110207
I think I may have a hen with impacted crop but she seems unable to stay on her feet and is very unstable also!! Is this normal? I have read some things about removing the compact lump but is is really big ( she almost looks as though she has no neck!!) could it be something else?? Would a photo help?? What can I try!! Scared of olive oil, incase I flood lungs!! ????????
Redwing
If you have a poultry friendly vet local then I guess that would be the best option It could be impacted crop or sour crop , massaging the crop gently may help If you are worried about her choking then dont tip her to get the liquid out as that can cause problems if you dont know what you are doing If you drop some olive oil in to her beak and not down the back of her throat then she should just swallow it as normal Another option would be to mix lots of oil in to a slush with pellets then massage but you risk filling the crop even more if that doesnt work
sandyhas3chucks
I agree a trip to the vet sounds in order special if she is unsteady. Doesn't sound right at all
Jennyhenny
One of my girls has had impacted crop a couple of times. Each time I have managed to sort it with olive olive and massage but also feeding her maggots (not dyed) to eat away at the mass . I fed them to her a few times a day. Although she looked miserable and stood in a corner most of the day with it she was steady on her feet. Jennyhenny
Redwing
Good point about the maggots, I forgot that - they are worth a try
