Early onset morehens

Recommended Posts

I started keeping chickens just over a month ago and already feel the urge to increase my stock from 6 to 9 birds.

The breeds I fancy buying are Cream Legbar, Welsummer and Black Rock possibly from Happy Chicks in Lancashire. Any thoughts on my choice of birds or supplier would be helpful.

I maybe need councelling on this matter, although I haven't discussed this with my OH and she will do that I'm sure.

Please be advised it is a terminal condition, no cure just a brief rest bite (after you get a few more) until cravings start again. Many hopeless cases on here be warned!!!!!!

Legbars are great, daft as a box of frogs, but fun and lay lovely blue eggs. Welsummers are good birds too and more stable than Legbars, what about Wyandottes, they are lovely birds?

I have just had a fairly mild bout of morehens, I now have four home grown chicks. I also have a swap lined up with someone at work to exchange one or two of my chicks for theirs (Legbars!). That way we can give each others habit a hit!!!

Well I've gone and done it, I've ordered a Welsummer, Black Rock and Cream Legbar from Happy Chicks. They will be with me in 4 to 6 weeks time as they are too young yet to go with my existing 6 birds. The delay will give me time to think about putting some temporary mesh up inside the WIR to keep them separate for a while.

BTW I had no trouble whatsoever getting the idea past my wife, she just said that as they are down the bottom of the garden and she doesn't go there it would be OK. :D:clap::dance: She has an inbuilt fear of all birds unfortunately. Going to the coast used to be a nightmare due to the seagull population. She's a bit better now but the nearest she has got to my hens is 5 metres.
