hopingforchickens
I've long hankered after some chickens, but it's looking unlikely thanks to an unconvinced neighbour and stupid clause in my deeds. So as an alternative I'm considering quail, I've looked through this forum and a bit online to find out a bit about them, but I'm still rather ignorant. We are half way through building a walk in run that will be approx 3m by 2.5m. It sits under a pine tree so there is plenty of shade but will be bare earth under foot. They would also be living in a hen house (donated by my friend for the chickens we were - possibly still are supposed to be getting). Do you think they would be happy? I've been to see a breeder today who said she could 'bring some on' for me, but I'm unsure of numbers and ratios etc. I also at the minute have no real idea what they eat etc. Any tips or ideas would be gratefully received
Janty
My quail hardly ever go into their eglu or other housing. They sort of doss about outdoors in their run. They love lots of twigs and branches full of greenery to hide under and they are very entertaining to watch. Mine eat Garvo quailmixture and a bit of millet as a treat. They also love trays of salad leaves which hubby grows for them.
