Peteangewinniebetty
My six chooks of about twenty weeks (4 of whom have started to lay), crowd the nesting box in their Eglu Cube and sleep there all night together. Whilst this might not appear to be a problem whilst they're actually sleeping, I do worry about how easy it is for them to lay their eggs. I have found two eggs that have been laid on and dropped the perch area of the Cube and one egg in the nesting box first thing in the morning when I've let them out that was crushed obviously it seems due to the over crowding. Is there anything I can do about this?
counturchickens
Sorry, I don't know the answer but we're having the same problem with 5 ex batts! Hopefully someone will come along with a bright idea!
Egluntyne
You could put an upturned plant pot or a football in the nestbox overnight and dash out early doors to remove it. You could also try going out to them after they have fallen asleep, and position them on the roosting bars. They will grumble a bit, but it may get them into the habit of perching, if you do it for a week or so.
