surfer_chicken
I have read on here that broody hens will accept day old chicks when the hatch is unsuccessful. My hen, Mildred, has just gone broody today. I don't think I would be able to hatch chicks from eggs as I couldn't take on any boys, but I would still like some chicks. I was wondering if she would accept day old, sexed chicks and how long should I leave her on fake eggs before this? I know sexing is not always 100% accurate, but I would prefer it to a 50:50 chance of boys. My butcher can dispatch of any boys if worse comes to worse. surfer_chicken
Nevermind. I got a very big no from the rest of the family over getting chicks, so no babies for Mildred. Time to get the broody cage out...
Egluntyne
That's a shame. I did it very successfully last year.
