bigmommasally
Does anyone know if Garvo 715 is okay to feed to our girls instead of Garvo 730 layers mash? OH went to our usual Garvo supplier (Rosehill Hatchery Hanningfield) to buy the hens layers mash 730 and the guy there has sold him the Garvo 715 Fancy young hens growers mash as he had run out of the layers mash and couldn't get hold of anymore He told OH that it wouldn't make any difference and wouldn't stop the girls laying. I think OH has been duped and that it must make a difference otherwise whats the point of the different feeds. What should I do feed it to them and not worry, or get some other make layers mash until we can get the Garvo 730 again. Help!
Egluntyne
It will have more protein and less calcium, so it might have an impact on their laying. Perhaps get some of the correct variety, and mix it rather than waste it......and take your custom elsewhere.
bigmommasally
Thanks Egluntyne, Mixing is a good idea at least it won't be totally wasted. Needless to say we won't be rushing back to Rosehill if I can find Garvo somewhere else and I won't be letting OH do chicken feed shopping on his own in future
stoice
Oh crikey - was going to some layers mash on saturday from them. My mum called them today only asking about pellets so I know they have those in. It won't harm your girls, but like Eglutine says egg quality may go down. Maybe a sprinkle of egg shell improver over each refill could compensate? Never done it though, so don't know. Let me know if you find somewhere else that Garvo in our area though, that'd be good to know.
