odd, but impressed!

I had a strange phonecall the other day - a lady asking for my younger daughter.

after some toing and froing, and after I had explained that she was 12 years old and I was her mother, the lady asked me if she had been discharged from hospital that morning, or was she still there? because their records said she'd been admitted at 6am that day and was no longer on the ward, so to keep their records straight could I confirm where she was, had she been discharged etc etc?

cue 10 secs of panic before I realised (a) I had dropped her to school myself as I do every day and (b) if she was in /going to hospital school would have called me.

it turns out someone on the ward had keyed in the wrong code (probably), and brought up my daughter's records (it's the hospital she was born in, plus a couple of trips to A&E there!).

anyway, the lady was very apologetic and very nice, and we had a good chat. I wasnt really bothered to be honest, storm in a teacup as far as I was concerned, people make mistakes etc etc, no harm done.

TODAY, I had a letter from the Trust's chief exec apologising profusely for the mix-up, and promising a full investigation and that he would contact me again when that had been completed. I am actually really impressed that he bothered to write, let alone that there's going to be an investigation!! I almost feel like writing back to say please dont worry, I'm sure they've got better things to do worry about etc etc. :D

That's good that they're investigating; I don't know how their patient or booking system works but it could have been more than a minor 'hiccup' in the system...Once when I was admitted to hospital the nursing staff accidentally left the name & details of the previous patient in the bed up instead of me....Never...Never before, or since have I experienced the wrath that was unleashed by that consultant to the nurses...

I suppose it would make the consultant look stupid  and I doubt that a consultant would like to look stupid...

I think that a mistake like that could also cost lives...

im glad that your daughter is ok...and that you managed to get the full story out without having a total meltdown (I know a few parents that would have gone totally off the wall at that phone call  )
