Hi everyone,

We are new to chicken keeping (about 2 months) and have a lovely eglu classic. We are learning on the job and think we are nearly getting there but have a couple of questions :

1/ Our chickens were happily laying eggs everyday , then over the last few days they are not laying everyday, they look healthy and we can't see any problems - is this normal?

2/ Although we are early risers we feel sorry for the chickens being locked in the eglu when it is light at this time of year at about 4am, does anyone leave the door open at night, so they can come and go as they please.

Thank you for reading this and am grateful for any advice.

Cheryl

Hi, welcome to the forum.

I leave the door to my cube open at the moment but then it is sited on a solid base so there is no chance of a fox digging in. I will go back to closing it in the winter.

I guess it depends on your run/base. When I had the Go on grass I did shut them in each night because of mr fox!

I am of the opinion of if you trust the run during the day then why not at night?

I do leave my eglu door open into the run, I do have electric fencing on all night too but probably still would leave it open in the summer. Not everyone does though. It has to be a personal decision.
