Reputable Silkie suppliers in Scotland?

Recommended Posts

Hello taffeta.

I'm not in Scoland but I can say that my Silkies all did just fine throughout last winter and we live close to one of the UK cold spots, Benson. It got down to -18 at one point. Sometimes they got a bit wet and I was worried in case their pom poms froze but I found that patting with paper kitchen towel (or in the case of the pom poms a gentle squeeze) got most of the rain water off. I also used to put them on a towel on my lap an dry them with my hair dryer on a low setting. They seemed to love it and I enjoyed doing it :D

You might find more information from the Silkie club There is even a Scottish national show advertised in the Shows area there. It is run in Jan each year (contact Dilwyn Green tel number 01771622557) . You can also post questions on the forum (and don't have to be a member to do so).

Hi Taffeta & welcome to the forum. It's a great place to chill :!: I have thought about silkies from time to time - they really are lovely but I feel that our winters would just be too much for them. Their feathers aren't waterproof & I think they would just be miserable here. I don't know where you are but we are cold, wet & exposed from November to at least March and I just don't feel Silkies are sufficiently hardy to cope with this :(

Thankyou both for replying. I was working yesterday and only just logged on so forgive my tardy response. Hmm, that's interesting. Since I won't be able to get a WIR for a while I'll have to put the idea on the backburner for a while but that link will be very useful. Thankyou so much.
