WildeWoman
Hi Guys, hope you can help... We have just built an extension and bees appear to be entering the area inbetween the blocks and the bricks that is filled with insulation. Before we fit the doors/windows, obviously we need to know that they are out - how do we establish that they are definately using this (as opposed to just visiting) and how do we persuade them to leave?? Many thanks.
Olly
If they are honeybees, then they will be setting up a colony. You'll need to contact your local authority or someone licensed in pest destruction to have them destroyed, because it's almost impossible to remove them once they've gone into the fabric of a building. If they are bumble bees, then they will probably depart within the next month or so because their work is done for the summer, so you could (if you can bear to) just wait for that. Either way, it's most likely that they are living in it, not just 'visiting' because it doesn't sound as if there is much to attract a bee there in the way of pollen or nectar! I doubt if you will be able to do anything other than have them destroyed, unfortunately.
TheGirlsMum
weve just had a swarm of bees removed from our field from a local bee keeper we found him by just looking on line for cornish beekeepers (replace with your county) he was brilliant and I will be meeting up with him again for bee keeping classes in the winter
