Millihelen
I have a racing pigeon living under my willow tree - well I think that is what it is. It looks quite slender (can a bird look sporty?) and has two leg rings, one red and one blue with some lettering on them. Usually he is perched in the lower branches of the tree, but I have seen him on the ground, though I can't get close to him. I found a pigeon racing website - but that said there is no point reporting a stray pigeon unless you can capture him and get the codes off the leg rings. There is no chance of me catching him, I am useless with birds (i don't like wings flapping) - and anyway the tree branches are too high. OH - I forgot to say, the chickens also live under the willow tree, but they don't seem at all bothered, and for all I know they are probably inviting him in for his meals! But what if anything should I do? He's been there since at least last Thursday?
Patricia W
I live in Abingdon too, Milliehen! If he's eating and drinking I think I'd leave him. Maybe he's just decided to go walkabout - sorry flyabout!
Pekin
If you can't catch it to get the ring number then nothing, perhaps it will go merrily on its way eventually. Or else chuck some corn down and see if you can get close enough to catch it, racing pigeons are usually pretty tame and easy to catch. I've got a dutch one here and as I don't speak dutch its going to be a challenge to get it reunited with its owners but I will make every effort as if it were mine I would like to know what has happened to it. Maybe he's just decided to go walkabout - sorry flyabout! Ah yes - I remember you live near me and probably know my willow tree! He looks healthy, so I assume he is eating and drinking. I don't think he is injured in any way as he flies 10-12ft up into the branches.

Does he speak English? Most Dutch people I have ever met speak English very well - but I wouldn't know about the pigeons
Patricia W
Sounds like he's happy - I'd leave him/her. There's a sparrow hawk family near my willow tree so I hope they don't come near yours....
