EBurrows
Hi, I have 2 chickens - 1 Miss Pepperpot - mother (bless) and 1 Heinz 57 - her hatchling (Now a fully grown chicken). The Heinz 57 did lay a few eggs, however, she(?) has now stopped laying, eats any eggs I don't get to first and has started crowing (sort of) very early every morning. (not full cock-a-doodle-do but still very noisy!!!) Can chickens change sex???? Is there anything I can do - need to know before my neigbours lose it!!! Thanks E
Redwing
Hiya, this is sadly reasonably common, the chicken doesnt actually change sex but it can take on some or all of the cockerel type behaviour There isnt any way to adjust the behaviour, keeping the coop door closed overnight may cut down early morning noise A couple of china eggs in the nestbox can stop egg eating, remove real eggs as early as you can
EBurrows
Hi, Thank you for your response... I'm not sure how to tackle this one either... Do you think getting a few other hens may take her mind off acting like a cockerel for a while, or do you think it would just make her worse? I'll give the china eggs a try, meantime... Many Thanks for the advice, Much appreciated, E
