sarahelliott
hello everyone! it's been a while. for numerous reasons i can't log into my old account (-sarahjayne) because my email was hacked and ive been blocked off of everything i was signed up to including omlet so time for a new account. ANYWAY. I fear my beautiful esmee is coming to the end of her chicken life. She has not been herself at all recently, her comb is going paler pink, she just stands in a corner and is sleepy most of the time. She's not eating much - her crop is empty however i wondered if it was sour crop so tipped her and massaged her crop area, and she did bring something up but just swallowed it again so not sure.. also she doesnt smell at all. also she looks as if she no longer has a neck as she is THAT hunched over. her bum is a bit red, as is her chest (she doesnt have all her feathers and never has - we have 2 fearless pluckers who still manage with bumper bits and all the spray you can imagine). she hasn't layed in a while, she was the first of ours to lay. her poos are also a bit on the watery side but cannot see any crawlies in. i honestly cant think of what could be wrong and wondered if anyone could help? could it be old age setting in or is it something more serious? the other hens are showing no signs at all like esmee they are all happy healthy and searching for grubs as we speak. Ain't Nobody Here
Have you felt her undercarriage to see if it's hot and swollen? Could be peritonitis?
sarahelliott
she is quite warm underneath and very swollen - and has also done a projectile water + bright green poo which looks like mushy pees, but she hasn't had access to anything other than pellets today. what should i do? Ain't Nobody Here
I'm afraid that requires a trip to the vets . I had a girl with peritonitis recently but she made a full recovery with treatment by the vet.
Dolly
Hi Sarahelliott, I hope the vet can help your girl and she makes a speedy recovery. ANH - can I ask what treatment the vet gave your hen to help her, I ask because I had a girl with peritonitis recently - thanks.
