Julia W
Don't know if it's common but I get the odd softie from time to time. One of my hens is laying pretty big eggs at the moment and they seem to be double yolks too, but only every other day or two days but there was a softie up there this morning that had fallen through the roosting bars (perhaps she knows it's a softie and doesn't bother going into the nesting area) but no large egg for the past couple of days. I put a tiny bit of poultry spice in their food every now and then, this is supposed to help with the shell quality if they are a bit brittle. They have grit readily available at all times, the stuff that contains the oyster shell but not sure really what to do about it. I've only had this batch of hens since May so maybe she'll settle down soon.
