A bird of prey has moved into our area recently, it flies over every now and then and it can be heard calling. My neighbours managed to get a picture of it eating a mouse in their apple tree and it is almost definitely a kestrel (and a fairly beautiful one at that :D ).

My problem is my chicks are three weeks old today, and mummy chicken as been enjoying taking them for a peck around the garden for half an hour or so each day (they love it  ), but I am worried that they would be a very good meal for a bird of prey and I'm not as comfortable letting them out of the run. Is the kestrel realistically a threat? And if so, how long until the chicks are too big to be seen as a potential meal?

Thank you!
