2 of 3 laying softies

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

We have 5 ex batts, 2 rescued last year who seem to have given up laying now so having their retirement. We had 3 more this year (April) and they're getting on really well except in the last few weeks 2 of the 3 are laying softies most of the time (though have the odd good one). They were on ex-batts pellets, so changed to another kind as thought this might be an issue. They are eating them ok, and have just finished a course of flubenvet. They are in a run, but have fr time every afternoon from 4pm (in the sun and out). Could it be the run cover (not clear) preventing them getting sunlight - i thought about getting one of the omlet clear ones for the winter, but thought it would be too hot for the summer. They have a grit station which seems to go down so someone is eating it, and must pick things up when FR'ing. I have some limestone flour, should I try this with some cod liver oil - or try Zocal? One isn't fully feathered, but I suppose could be concentrating on that, but up until recently eggs were fine. We did lose a hen to peritonitis last year - no signs of that thank goodness. Any other suggestions?
