Chicken Kitty
I was wondering if anyone has experience of keeping Silver Wybar bantams?....They look so pretty but I know nothing about the breed, so any info would be very much appreciated! (....I am thinking ahead for next spring - just in case 'morehens' strikes!! - won't tell the hubby yet! )
Redwing
They are the autosexing version of the silver laced Wyandotte, not quite so clearly marked but very pretty with the same lovely docile and calm nature of the Wyandotte The advantage is that they are sexable at hatch so you can buy young chicks with confidence Apart from that there isnt much between them and silver laced Wyandottes but the Wybar is classed as a rare breed so if you can get hold of some you'd be supporting the breed which is nice
Chicken Kitty
Thanks Redwing! I discovered them (in Norfolk) whilst browsing different breeders online ....I will make make some enquiries! I only have experience of my lovely Sussex bantams, how would Wybar bantams compare size wise?
Redwing
They'll be about the same size One of the best breeders is over your way I think, hopefully thats who you've discovered
Chicken Kitty
That's great We had trouble locating bantam breeders in Cambridgeshire when we first started looking earlier this year. We got our Sussex girls from lovely breeders near Thetford, Norfolk and the Wybar breeder I have found is near Norwich.....So it seems lovely Norfolk is the place to go in East Anglia! Redwing
This is the breeder I know, she is a lovely super lady with great stock http://sites.google.com/site/philcottpoultry/home
Chicken Kitty
Thank you so much for that Redwing! My first plan is for a lovely WIR with roof for the girls in time for winter....which would nicely free up the existing run for the bad case of 'morehens' that I'm planning on developing in the spring!
