squiffs
I bought a new 6kg gravity feeder and a drinker for the cube as I don't think my grub and glug are up to the challenge of eventually feeding and watering 6 hybrids... I'm hanging it using an s hook and a length of chain, however the chain is too big for the hole in the little hat that comes with the feeder. The run is covered as much as possible on the side where the feeder hangs but the rain still gets into the lip and the main chamber of the feeder and creates a mushy mess which clogs up the flow of pellets - the chickens do eat it but it's going to cause problems if it stops food dropping through what with it going stale etc. Any suggestions? Even if the hat fitted when it was hanging, or on the floor, the lip/food tray would still get wet - what does everyone do to stop their gravity feeders making porridge for the chooks? Olly
Could you use a bit of wire at the end of the chain, just to go through the hole in the feeder 'hat' and back up? I hang mine in the centre of the run so it's well-covered.
Redwing
I use carabina clips attached to chains or bungees to hang feeders the clips tend to be okwith the lidded feeders You can get wide disc covers about the size of a big plate that may help Alternatively you could unclip one of the panels under the cube and be clever with run clips and carabina clips to make a door and hang the feeder under the cube
squiffs
Alternatively you could unclip one of the panels under the cube and be clever with run clips and carabina clips to make a door and hang the feeder under the cube This idea has intrigued me - putting the feeder in the middle is too fiddly as we have the old small door, so it could work! Just got to figure out how to make the door and what to hang the feeder from
Egluntyne
Instead of using the little door, why not 'gain entry' by hinging the end panel at one side and using some of those sturdy velcro ties to fasten it at the top and the other side. Redwing
A bit of thick batten pushed through under the cube would be ok to hang a feeder from
