Pecking Pekins

Recommended Posts

Hi all... Just wondering if I could have some advice/enlightenment?!

We've had three little pekins (about 20+ weeks old) since May now, a beautiful black and white and a scruffy but very friendly Lavendar.

My black and lavendar chicks are really friendly and quite dominant whereas my white, Hets, is very timid and a little on the strange side, in that she's always off clucking to herself and making a general racket. The other two give her the odd well aimed peck and it's never really bothered me, knowing they do this to show who's boss etc! However tonight they were both at it again, and the black one repeatedly was pecking around her eyes, I removed her, put her back (which I realise probably didn't help but I wanted to make sure she wasn't too hurt!)

Strange as well considering Hets is much bigger than my lavendar!!

I've read about and seen you can get tar etc and other products to stop this but I don't really want to do that to the bullied one - it seems a little unfair! Any other suggestions ideas?

Hi there, you could try using some of the anti pecking spray that you can buy. I think if blood is drawn its best to remove the hen and spray her with purple spray. Not sure what else to suggest, as long as the other two are not bored and they all have enough room to escape each other. Another tip is to ensure you have enough feeders and drinkers so they are not defending their food etc. It should settle down eventually! Hope things get sorted, i know how hard it can be to see one of them being bullied!
