Poorly ex batt

Recommended Posts

Hi

I'm new here and new(ish) to chicken keeping. One of my ex batts, scrambled has been looking off colour for past few days. She's stopped laying and is looking pretty lethargic :( she's recently been wormed too. She's just standing resting with her head behind her neck :( shes eating a little and drinking but is just not right. Her poo this morning had bits of blood in it too...we've had red mite too but house and chooks are being powdered regulary (cube on order!). I'm thinking she's at the end and trying to get a vet app on monday...any advice?

Thanks

Clare

Bits of blood in poo could indicate coccidiosis. This may mean that all your girls have it. From my understanding ex-bats are a bit like chicks in that they haven't had exposure to these things before and so have no immunity yet. If I were you I'd treat them all with Coxoid straightaway. This does mean a long egg withdrawal though but it might do the trick as Monday is quite long off.

Test came back clear for parasites & nasties To keep her on baytril & see how she goes. Might just be her time to go :( no more blood in poo though. they didn't charge me either as im such a good customer lol :S will make her mash later on, she's in a box in the kitchen. Had a lot of bad luck with our chooks so far thinking about giving up :(

I'm pleased the tests came back negative - you have a really good vet.

Sorry you have had such bad luck with your hens - are they all ex-bats as they can come with some problems.

Don't stop chicken keeping - they are the best thing that ever happened to me and help keep me sane. The good times really do outweigh the bad.

Wishing her and you all the best for tonight - sounds like she is getting a lot of TLC you sound a very caring keeper.
