Unsecure chicken perches

Hi all,

 

OH has agreed to me getting another coop, as yet, no agreement on getting some ex-batts but hoping that he will realise when we have another coop, we also need more chickens

 

There has been squabbles over the nest box on the current coop and OH wants to get another coop so they can all have a nest box! We're getting the same coop as we have (pictured) and OH is going to do some modifications to the coops so the have one big coop, although I think we should keep it as it is in case he decides we need some ex-batts. We've already got 2 buff sussex booked for next year so I want to keep the coops as they are so the newbies have somewhere to live seperately at first.

 

Anyway, I'm looking at my pens/runs today and thinking they are a bit too small for 7 chickens let alone the 10 I actually want, so I want to get another pen but OH reckons the space is adequate given they FR all day, every day (unless we are out), given that the pens are only £40 I do feel that we should get another 1 or 2 if we get more chickens? Each one is 5ft.

 

Can anyone have a look at my current set up for 5 chickens and offer any advice?

I would say you definitely need more to be able to expand, the general recommendation is a minimum of 1sq metre per hen (although you can get away with less in a walk in run if you add tables, perches etc as you have height aswell.)
