mullergaroo
Bought a lovely 6 week old american dominique a couple of months ago to keep my lonely ex battery hen company come the winter, but also to keep my growing family in eggs. The man at the rescue centre said it was a hen and appeared pretty confident. This morning I found my rather large "hen" mounting and generally pestering my original chook. After a bit of research I'm now convinced I have a cock/rooster. What will happen? Will I no longer get eggs? Original hen (fat chick) is 2 years old and Speckle is about 4 months. Egluntyne
It could be just a behaviour thing. I would google some images and compare them to your chicken. If it has a lavish comb and wattles and a sweeping tail, it is probably a rooster. In which case you won't get eggs from it. It shouldn't make any difference to the laying capabilities of the other hen.
