My chickens (Black rocks) are about 18 months old, and they have always been fed on layers mash, even from before I got them.

Because mash is so messy and difficult to clear up, thereby attracting vermin, I am trying to change them over to pellets. I know that this sounds a bit daft, but will they starve themselves to death rather than eat something new? They don't seem to be eating the pellets.

Do it gradually. I have this when I get ex-batts and I simply introduce the pellets into the mash slowly until after about 3-4 weeks they are eating all pellets.
