Hello,

Well after a running battle with rats (I shot about 10) tunnelling under the run I decided enough was enough and decided to concrete a large section of my garden to put the chooks

when I bought my house the next door nieghbough didnt bother extending their boundary fence to the proper perimeter so I sectioned a bit off the bottom for the chickens, I put up a big shed where the chooks used to be. No more tunneling rats, I still will keep bait boxes down though.

so the chooks have about a 30ft x 3ft play area and a nice penthouse to sleep in. A bonus aswell is, no more bending down to get the eggs out of the roosting box :)

Yes you can fit 5 in an Eglu, they may bicker a bit about the nesting box but should be ok

Whilst most hens dont mind too much getting a bit wet remember that they will shelter in the rain so your covered area needs to be big enough for them to occupy themselves in just that area (if that makes sense) so you'll have 3sqm aprox covered in total which isnt massive for 5 hens

That area will be great in summer though, lots of shade and will probably be bone dry too :P
