Automatic feeders-are they any good?

Recommended Posts

I was thinking about getting something like this:

http://www.solwayfeeders.com/products/55kg-emperor-feeder-with-wooden-legs-and-pan-feeder-psf0046-c398.html

Does anybody have one & would you recommend it? I've read some reviews but wondered if they might be biased.

I'm after something that keeps spillage to a minimum as I've got mickey mouse coming into the run at night.

Thanks.

Yes! In my case, I have the galvanised metal hopper to foil rats in my walk in run, which has been 100% successful. It was an expensive outlay but has definitely paid for itself in terms of no rats.

I can't comment specifically on the plastic ones, but the drop down spiral feeder is a brilliant idea, no trace of food on the ground.

If I'm around I take my hens supplementary treats and a bowl of mash porridge for fun, but remove it when they've fed, but that's just me, it's not necessary.

I bought mine from Solway, on an Omleteers recommendation, and it's great.

We've used one for a couple of years now. Though from following your link I see they've changed quite a bit since we got ours. Ours is a plastic tub that holds 25Kg. The demand feed is a paddle that the girls peck at. Works well and we might get another soon.

Good luck ;)
