vidic
I have a hybrid hen, sort of looks like a RIR but i am not sure what she is. Unfortunately, our second girl passed away so I don't think it's fair to keep one hen alone so am looking for a friend for her. Would a bantam/pekin etc be suitable? I know intro's can be hard so not sure...
chickensaregreat
I don't see why not, I had a cockeral who lived with large fowl hens for ages until I had to sell him, I have also got one living with hybrids at the moment and I have also had bantam who lived with large fowl hens all her life!! Snowy
It would be quite hard to introduce a small bantam to a large hen on a 1:1 basis. Even if the big hen is lonely, she will attack any newcomers, and all her fury on a tiny pekin is likely to end in tears. You would have to keep them seperate but in sight of each other, then supervise them closely for several weeks. If you introduce bigger hens to her, there will still be argy bargy but she will not be able to do as much damage to a bigger hen. If you introduce two new hens, the fighting is lessened further. vidic
This is a photo of our coop, well one like it. i can't find the original one on the website anymore so not sure if these dimensions are accurate - i think it is just suitable for two hens, what do you think? http://www.adverts.ie/pet-accessories/chicken-coop/600403 Length 78" Height 41" Width 27" this is a better ad http://www.adverts.ie/pet-accessories/chicken-coop-and-feeders/1047593
