Tallulah has a limp

Recommended Posts

she was fine around 10 this morning when I went out to snatch eggs away from Henrietta (who has been broody), but at 5.45 this evening when I let them out she couldn't put her weight on one foot. Don't know what has happened but it doesn't look good. :( She's also moulting so she looks a very sorry sight. I gave her some corn and checked her over, but can't see anything obvious... looking for positives in the fact that she still has an appetite and went into the bushes looking for worms.

She couldn't get up onto the roosting bar with the other two tonight (they all sleep outside in the WIR), but had managed to get onto the lower branch in the run so for now I have shut her in the house (without any roosting bars) hoping that she can rest tonight. I will assess the situation tomorrow and if there is no improvement I will take her back to the farm for advice... they are really helpful if you have problems. To be honest I'm not holding out much hope, don't know what I will tell my daughter if the worst happens as she is her chicken. Also lost 5 neon tetras out the fish tank today, so have spent half the night doing a deep clean of the tank before tending to poor old Tallulah.

Two weeks ago my Bluebelle was limping badly and could not put her foot to the ground. I picked her up checked her for breaks etc. I am no expert though. She was eating but keeping herself to herself and resting most of the time. I kept an eye on her in case she was bullied. Two weeeks later and although she has a slight limp she is ok now. :D Keep an eye her and seperate her if she is getting bullied. If you think she is getting any worse take her to the vet.

Well I took her to the chicken expert who says she thinks she has fallen off the perch as she has a graze on her side as well. :? The good news is that her leg isn't broken so barring any future infections she should be ok, bought her some tonic to perk her up a bit and dug over the ground in the WIR giving her the best worms! :D Fingers crossed for a swift recovery.
