I have had to relist an item on ebay due to it not selling on there before. It's very heavy (15kg) & the mainland postage is around £30. Someone is intrested from the Republic of Ireland & they were saying that they've had heavier items posted to them at no more than 50 euros. The lowest I can find is £44 + vat. Can I say to them that if they start the bidding then I will just charge them the £30 & not extra? Or is this naughty? I just want a guaranteed bid on the item!

I wouldn't do that - it is against eBay rules I am afraid, & should they drop out,they could report you.

 

Have you asked them which couriers they would use to get such a good price?

I suspect that they may be trying it on a bit

Have you tried Paysend for a price too?

I decided to include posting to Ireland on my page with a price of £40. I don't mind a bit of a loss if someone actually bids on it!

Now I've seen your link to Paysend. I've never heard of them, but they said to Ireland would be £24.95. Should I alter my ebay page again or just leave it do you think?

Maybe make it £30,if you are CERTAIN that this is the correct price with Paysend for the packed size & weight of the item.

You need to measure as well as weigh it & be 100% certain on the destination (Southern Ireland is much more expensive than Northern,for example)

How long is it reasonable to wait for someone to pay for an item they have won? I'm a little concerned as the person who won my item has no history at all; I can appreciate that everyone has to begin somewhere, but want to help if they don't understand paypal etc!

If you have not specified a time in your listing (which you should do next time) then 4 days to a week.

After a week (I think,might be 4 days) you can open a claim against them which sees them getting an email from eBay telling them to pay up or get a strike. In my experience,if they haven't paid in a week,they won't & you can relist the item.

When you make a claim & they do not pay,you get your final value fees back too.
