Ygerna
I'm in need of some lighting for our first camping holiday at Easter, but, am bewilldered by the options out there. Anyone got anything they'd recommend. It needs to be operated by battery, or solar I guess Anything I should not bother with? Thanks in advance
craftyhunnypie
Battery operated l.e.d lighting lasts longer Ygerna & is super bright. We got some lights with quite a lot of l.e.d's in from Lidl or Aldi some time ago. You can sometimes pick them up at garages or car shops. Otherwise try Wilko's. You can also get l.e.d lanterns. Bog standard solar light stick in ground sort - are fab for marking your tent ropes & pegs - or the tow bar of your caravan. A wind up torch is useful. lillybettybabs
We have gone through a few lanterns and we have found this one to be the best. Avoid the cheap plastic ones and just get one good one. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Coleman-Led-Rechargeable-Lantern-Uk/dp/B0030BGA8W/ref=sr_1_8?s=sports&ie=UTF8&qid=1331643284&sr=1-
Olly
A gas lantern is worth investing in as it will give a very bright light - this is for use outside the tent though, I would not ever use one inside. Good for those evenings sitting outside having a drink or playing cards or whatever. Bear in mind that there often isn't anywhere to hang up a light or to put it down inside the tent, so a flashlight with a solid base that can stand upright on the floor is better than a hand torch. I find the best thing is to lay everything out in the tent during daylight hours, so that when you go to bed it's easy to find. Whatever you do, don't use a bright light inside the tent and then stand in front of it to get undressed. I have been entertained many, many times on campsites by the number of people who forget this simple bit of physics!
