MissPug+Chooks
Hello! Has anyone used a chicken saddle to prevent further feather pecking from bullying? I have just had to boot out the ring leader into a seperate run and cat box because she has stripped the back and tail feathers off our bottom ranking hen (despite her having a bumpa bit on!) As i say we've removed the ring leader, smothered the victim in sudacream and doused her in anti-pek and she has been put back in the WIR with one other hen who doesnt bully her. However i have noticed before that when the quills grow back the other hens then are inquisitive and pull the quills out so will a chicken saddle help prevent this and aid in the feathers growing back? Also how long do i need to keep the bully seperated for? I have put some Chicken Vet Amino + in the victim's water as a nutritional aid to regrow her feathers also Xxxx
Snowy
The saddle isn't specifically designed for that purpose, it is designed to prevent damage to the hens feathers caused by over amorous cockerels. However, it is worth a try, if that is the area being nibbled by the others, it will give her some protection. I would be inclined to give it a try if it were me
