counturchickens Posted March 24, 2012 Share Posted March 24, 2012 Little Donna has had pooey knickers for a couple of weeks. I have given her a bath, and just started a course of flub vet. She is a ex batt, we've had her for a year and tbh has never been quite right. She lays sporadically, and we have the odd softie. This morning she is very quiet and when I took them their hot mash (favourite) she didn't want any. I'm not sure if she has a tummy problem or an egg laying problem. I know if it's her egg laying gear there won't be a forever solution, but is it worth trying her on something for a poorly tummy? The rest of the girls are absolutely fine. loumabel Posted March 24, 2012 Share Posted March 24, 2012 I have a similar problem with one of my ex batts,she just layed softies all the time and was getting a bit poorly even thoughI add eggshell improver to her food. The vet prescribed some penicillan tablets and some liquid calcium and I have also been adding some cod liver oil to her food as I read on this forum that its good to use and helps them process the calcium. To be honest I think this may only work in the short term but like you I try and keep her going as long as I can and give her every chance to recover. counturchickens Posted March 26, 2012 Author Share Posted March 26, 2012 After inspiration from someone on here contacted the vets at our local pets at home store, and they had an avian specialist Donna has several problems, so x rayed her, her oviduct is not as it should be, she has some lumps possibly stones in her tummy and her lungs were not right either. She said she could try operating, but thought it was risky and not guaranteed to work. However she confirmed she doesn't seem in pain, so we have decided just to bring her home and spoil her until she is in pain, when we will have her pts. She also did a swab test and she doesn't have worms so I have given up trying to make her eat the flubenveted feed (she wasn't eating anyway) so she has had a little bit of melon and some finely chopped grapes which she enjoyed. She will also eat cat food so she will be having some of that too. We will have to prepare ourselves for the worst soon, but she seems happy just now, and she can have whatever she wants.
