Grass mesh

Recommended Posts

Not exactly self-sufficient but The Boy and I meshed the grass yesterday. I bought some of this

I dug edging in to the edges first, then we laid and cut the mesh - really easy but spent all day on our hands and knees  I filled in any potholes with compost and grass seed.

I had got fed up with the chickens started a dustbath, then the dogs widening it  I haven't helped matters by trudging up and down it every day in the winter. The idea is for the grass to grow through it and intertwine with the mesh to provide a really strong base, so now more holes nor bald bits I hope.

I have watered it with the hose each night and am keeping the hens in the run until it has taken hold. I have some off-cuts and the best part of a roll left, I am really please with the finish 8):D

 if you look out of the window, in a half-light and squint then it looks really green!

Joking aside, The Boy always used to say that my grass was greener than the neighbours'... presumably because of the nitrogen in the chicken poo.

I am missing them pootling around the garden but it's only for a couple of weeks and then it will all be back to normal. The hosepipe ban starts on 5th April so I am watering it every night at the moment even though the ground is fairly damp.
