Corkfeet
Hi, I have a Lavender Pekin on 6 eggs. She has been on them for 13 day and is in her own broody coop which I set up for her. Up until yesterday she has been sat constantly on the eggs and had not left the safety of her nest so I was going in daily to refresh her small dishes of water and pellets and clean out any poo that was there. When cleaning her out I have noticed there is poo on a few of the eggs. Is this harmful to the chicks? Thank you in advance for any responses, I'm very new to this. Cheers.
mimi5
Hi there, Didn't like to reply sooner, but I too have a broody pekin who has been on six eggs. She has been a nightmare!!! Not getting off, eating or drinking at all unless I lift her!!! Then she pooped the nest. I was shocked, panicked a bit, but cleaned the nest and also wiped the eggs with warm water and paper towels. She went on to do it twice more!!! I felt sure the eggs were doomed, but took advice from various sources(There's a post a little below yours) and everyone seemed to say that messy broodies can have eggs hatch!! So proof of the pudding.....it's day 21 here and I've a fluffy cute chick and another hatching!!!!! When I removed the egg shell it was one of the most stained!!!!!! So glad I didn't give up and throw these eggs away!!! It's my first time hatching too and I thought it would be easy using a broody???? So I'd say hang in there and see what you get! Best wishes
