Crop problems in Bluebelle type hybrids

Recommended Posts

I had a beautiful Blue Haze hybrid (my favourite hen actually) who sadly died a few months ago. I am planning to buy 4 new hybrids and would love another Blue Haze in the new flock. I found though that my previous one had a lot of crop problems. They were always sorted, she lived nearly three and a half years, but after the first few bouts of trouble she was left with a huge pendulous crop (she was very buxom to start with) and I needed to take great care with her diet to ensure she stayed well. She, along with my other hens, had/have Garvo feed with a little corn and greens in the afternoon and ACV with garlic in their water. I took care not to feed bread, long grass, whole grapes etc. I was wondering if Bluebelle type hybrids are prone to crop problems? I have come across several posts elsewhere on line which would suggest that may be the case so I thought I would consult the lovely people on this forum to see if anyone else had had crop problems with a Bluebelle?
