Salop Chuck
Are there any breeding experts out there who can tell me why my Black Orpington bantams have got rosecombs instead of the usual single comb . My research on the net has not produced any satisfactory answers .
Daphne
Some of the original orps were bred with a rosecomb and actually blacks for showing are still allowed to have a rosecomb or a single. However, they are pretty unusual
Salop Chuck
Wow Thanks for the information, Daphne. They are delightful bantams and good layers, which is not typical of Orpingtons in general. I have got something pretty special.
Redwing
Its probably more likely that there is another breed in their family tree. possibly a Wyandotte
Salop Chuck
I think you are right, Redwing. They must have acquired the rosecomb from somewhere and Wyandotte is most probable candidate. I am not too sure what I have got now but it doesn't matter because they are delightful little bantams and I wouldn't change them for anything. When I get round to taking a photo I will post it on this forum for you to look at. Thank you all for your contributions.
