Blue44
Hi All Since I last posted I have added another 4 silkies (16 weeks old) to my 2 orginals (now 3 years old). I just wanted to check I was doing things right!. Had the babies about 10 days now, last night was the first night they have put themselves to bed yipee... I separated the garden down the middle with netting so they can see each other and let the babies go into bed first (eglu cube) which I've partitioned a bit off. I let them up at 5.30am but sectioned off a part of the cube as I wasn't sure if the older ladies might peck the newbies when they get up - I don't think this happens in the evening as all is dark but wasn't sure about the morning... Most days I have let them into the bigger garden where the 2 incumbents go about their business but come back to where the babies are foraging there is chasing, squarking and some pecking but I keep an eye on them... Should I be doing anything else and any ideas how long it takes for some acceptance or does that vary on the personalities involved? Many thanks
jackian
You seem fine to me . You may get a bit of pecking usually from the oldie who is bottom of the pecking order..she does not want to be there any more. Only if it gets savage and one becomes a bully should you get out the water pistol but I think it sometimes looks worse than it is. We seperated our WIR and let them out FR on seperate occasions. It was 2 weeks before we let them out together. I think it was 3 weeks before I felt that they could all be trusted. Now after a lot of screaming from Poppy at first they are all the best of friends. I'm sure some one else has more knowledge than me to give advice
