New Chicks, just a little tip or two.

Recommended Posts

If the sachet is enough to treat 5 days worth of water then its possibly worth a try (the course must be 5-7 days to work) but when the Coxoid arrives it would be inadvisable to use two mediactions at once

I'd hold out for the Coxoid personally but maybe give some tonic or Avipro in the meantime if you have some

Is Avipro the probiotic some people put in chicks first drinking water?

Hi,

Yes I've used aprivo for mum and chicks which I had given coxoid to as chicks developed blood in their poo. But you give it after they've completed the treatment or you could just give it as a boost I suppose. I had it recommended to me as something to keep in as it's helpful after antibiotics or an runny bottom!!! Gradually building up a collection of products and knowledge!!!! :D

How are your chicks doing chestnutmare??? My 1st hatch 5 wks now!!! 3 boys and 1 girl! 2nd hatch 3 wks now and 2 girls and 1 boy! :D

The chicks are doing great thanks. :) They are such a joy and I can spend a lot of time just watching them. I'm especially loving the pekins and their friendly nature. So much so that, although OH said initially this was 'my thing', he is happy to hatch more. He also wants to get a bigger incubator. I really don't need much encouragement.

The chicks that made it to being hatched are all healthy (so far). But this thread has been a reminder that there's still time for things to go wrong. I'm wondering what the essentials to keep stocked are.

What breeds have you got? (hatch)
