new Blue Laced Wyandotte... Being bullied....

Recommended Posts

HI, I was wondering if any one could help.

I popped to 'Perfect Poultry' with a friend who wanted to get some fetile eggs. I ended up coming back with Lacey, my Blue laced Wyandotte.

When I got her home I put her in the chicken house and shut the doors, until dusk when I let my other 4 girls in, in hope that they would just accept her. the next morning I found her cowering in a corner. that night I went to shut all the girls up and she was not in the house, she had cramed herself behind the house in a 2 inch space obviously fleeing the bully's!! I popped her in the house , then the next morning when my 4 other girls came out there was no sign of her, she was playing dead in the house. as soon as I lifted her up she perked up but went on to spend the day cowering behind the house. last night I just could not put her through another night with the bullies, so I put her in a recycle box in a spare run that I have. This is where she still is. embullies can see her and are not paying any attention. What would you suggest I do? Do you think they will get used to her? Or do I need to buy another girl so she can have some back up?

Thanks all.

Introducing a lone hen is really tricky but personally I wouldnt go back there for another hen

Any new hen should be isolated completely from the others for a week or two just in case it has bought anything in with it, I would suggest this would be a very good idea

Then add one of your most docile hens and let them get used to each other

then reintroduce to the others as a twosome

The breeder should really have given you good advice at the time, most wouldnt sell a single hen without offering advice and checking what set up its going to
