2 dead in a week

Recommended Posts

Hello,

unfortunately last week I lost my original choock Edith who was getting on a bit in age (3 3/4 yo) because she was elderly I thought she had just died of old age but to my shock this morning Ive found another dead choock, Florence was absolutely fine yesterday, eating and generally looking like a very normal healthy chicken, she was 2 1/2 yo.

They have been wormed in the last month with flubenvet and they have plenty of food and water, hope its just coincidence, any ideas?

Going to have a big clean out today, clean the eglu and shovel out all the muck from down the run and put down fresh bark

Phil :(

Sorry to hear about your girls. In the absence of any signs of illness, I think it is probably just an unfortunate coincidence. Edith was a good age, and tbh 2 1/2 is not an exceptionally young age for a hen to die. It seems to happen quite frequently that an apparently healthy hen is found dead suddenly. :(

It is a good idea to give everything a good clean.

thanks for the reply,

been busy this morning, shovelled out all the muck and old food and disinfected all the grubs and glugs and changed all he bedding and poop tray. Also wormed them again as a precaution.

The remaining 3 seem very happy and healthy, no problems (except for one beng broody!)

Will leave it a month before I get some new ones, just incase there is sickness in the flock
