One of my cockerals can be a bit aggressive and he has some vicious spurs and I thought if I could cut them that it might help the amount of cuts he gives me Thanks ... Yes you can trim them, if you hold the bird up to the light you will see that there is a translucent part of the spur and a darker area where there is a blood supply. You can cut the translucent bit with a pair of pliers or dog nail clippers Dont take off too much if you are unsure. A metal nail file can be used to smooth over the edges If you are really worried just use a nail file on the spur at its existing length to round off the sharp point There is probably a video on You Tube explaining how to do it, there are other methods including twisting off the spur and removing it with a hot potato but these can cause bleeding If the spur bleeds some flour should stop the bleeding or rub on a bar of soap Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
