white/creamy bits in egg

Recommended Posts

one of my chickens always lays eggs that always have creamy bits in them in clusters in the white next to the yolk. They look like small meat spots except they are very pale. I cannot find anything on the internet that describes them and have been throwing the eggs away rather than eating them. I do worm them and they seem happy and healthy - does anyone know what these flecks may be?

Hi,thanks for the reply but no it is not the chaleza- they are little dots in the egg white in a little cluster, each dot being about 1mm in size. there are usually about 6 or 7 of them. They do not seem crunchy and I quess if it was a bacterial infection then the whole white would be milky rather than discrete spots. I think it is only from one chicken but that is hard to tell as they tend to lay after I leave for work, so am not sure who lays which egg. It is the not knowing what they are ( I have found no reference to anything that matches their description anywhere) that makes me not want to eat those eggs. I've only had chickens for a year and a half so am still a novice.
